Chartered Accountants Johnston Carmichael have been appointed by RBS to determine which of the ten branches – including Comrie – given a stay of execution in the recent round of Branch closures, might stay open.
Commenting, Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP said:
“While I welcome the fact that we are starting to see some detail on how RBS are intending to assess whether or not the branch in Comrie will stay open, I remain concerned that this is little more than a PR exercise on their part.
“How can one help being suspicious when they alter the mobile bank route to include Comrie while the branch is still open!
“At least we now know the criteria that will be applied and that we have until September to demonstrate to RBS that the Branch in Comrie is both wanted and needed. We really are in a "use it or lose it" situation and I urge locals and visitors, RBS customers or not, to make as much use of the branch as they can in the coming weeks.
“Since Johnston Carmichael have said that they are looking to meet with stakeholders, I hope that the UK Government – who, after all, still owns 60% of RBS – will finally step up to the plate and defend these branches.”
